There will be two races each year, one in Orem, UT in September and the other in the Dominican Republic sugar cane fields the following April. Many Dominican children are without shoes right now and we can help them with this immediate need. Donate shoes at the end of the race to be given at the beginning of the race in the Dominican Republic. Racing the Cane has teamed with Run13.com to host this race. As a result, part of your registration dollars will help sponsor Dominican children in various educational endeavors such as taking English lessons at an academy, providing school supplies, helping with the cost of tuition, and other case-by-case needs that enable these kids to get a good education. Speaking English is often an unreachable long-term goal of Dominicans. For some kids, English gives them a better chance of attaining further education, becoming employed, and thus breaking the cycle of poverty.

Our Race in the United Stated Serves Three Purposes:

  1. Providing families with a fun, athletic experience wherein they can donate their shoes and entrance fee to a worthy cause.
  2. Gifting shoes, enabling Dominican children to finish the race started by American families.
  3. Generating funds to assist Dominican children in educational opportunities.

We are proud to say that a Dominican Republic politician announced the creation of a running track after they saw the interest and turnout at the April 10, 2010 race.
